El Paso Dentist Rewarded the 4-year-old “Caterpillar-Rescuer”

darj_gdc_2015_prize_award_blog

This time a winning good deed video was submitted about the story of 4-year-old Kai Silva, who was awarded the grand prize, a brand new iPad, on Thursday June 18th in Dr Darj’s office.

Silva learned that his teacher had a caterpillar problem in her garden, and she was going to exterminate them. Together with his dad, Silva went on a rescue mission and put the caterpillars into jars. He helped them to grow and even brought them to school to show his friends how caterpillars could be helped. The caterpillars became butterflies and he released them.

“I was taught by my dad that every living thing deserves a chance, even bugs.” said Silva.

Dr. Darj said, “The compassion of caring for creepy crawlies, sometimes even a bug, is what makes this act of kindness so mindful. I am happy to see parents teaching the younger generation how all aspects of life can be helped.”

Dr. Darj also picked a 2nd place winner – Clarissa Gardea from El Paso. Gardea wrote an essay about her grandfather’s disability and how she helped him out with chores. She felt good that she was giving him guidance through a rough time.

The purpose of the contest is to inspire our youths to reach out to help another in times of need.

El Paso Dentist Rewards Good Deeds From Youths

Mehrnoosh Darj

El Paso TX – El Paso dentist, Mehrnoosh Darj wants to encourage youths in her area to do good deeds in their community. By rewarding such behavior, Dr. Darj intends to strengthen their minds and teach them to be kind and compassionate when they grow into adults. She believes this to be the basis for a healthy and rewarding life.

Dr. Darj set out to accomplish this by launching a Good Deed Contest. The contest is accessible to any youth 18 years of age and under. Youths are urged to submit their good deed entries in essay or video format on her Facebook page or website. The winner will receive a new iPad.

All videos and essays need to be submitted by May 7th with the winner announced shortly thereafter. The contestants are encouraged to tell about a single good deed and explain what inspired them to do that. The deeds can be either small or large, from helping a classmate with their homework to volunteering at a homeless shelter. The contestants are encouraged to be creative, not only in their choice of good deeds but also in their videos or essays.

Darj’s philosophy is simple and based on the basic psychological approach of classical conditioning. Acknowledge good behavior in the present child’s life and the child will continue the kindness in the future.

“The kids of today need to feel significance through new achievements. A good deed project builds a sense of altruism and significance.” says Dr. Darj, “If we can start early in helping the youth of today choose between right and wrong, then the possibilities are endless.”

She opened her 3 dental locations on February 20th and March 14nd and welcomed anyone who needed emergency dental work done. Dr Darj and her staff treated the patients for free on those 2 days.

Realizing that many people are struggling in the current economy, Affordable Dental Associates owner Dr. Darj wanted to give people who couldn’t otherwise afford treatment an opportunity to take care of dental problems before they become more serious, and more costly.

“We were able to treat a total of about 200 patients offering them various procedures ranging from dental fillings to extractions and cleanings,” said Dr. Darj. “At the end of our last event, there were more people beyond our capacity to see. We gave rain checks for them to come back.”

“I am fortunate to have a job that entails bringing smiles to patients on a daily basis by getting rid of pain and improve their oral health as well as their appearance,” said the El Paso dentist.

In addition to free dental days, Dr Darj has also held numerous community events including food drives and also Do A Good Deed contests, which inspired youths to focus on performing good deeds. Children 18 years old and younger can enroll by visiting dentistryelpasotx.com.

“I would like to do my part as a dentist to help and hope other healthcare providers would join me and organize a similar effort in their community to help keep our fellow Americans healthy.” explained Dr. Darj.

El Paso dentist Dr. Mehrnoosh Darj is raising donations for a local food pantry and helping people improve their dental health by lowering their dental bill.

Dr. Darj launched a Food Drive that ended on January 1st, 2015. She invited the community to participate by bringing non-perishable food donations to one of her 3 dental offices. Each person was rewarded with a $39 Dental Cleaning, Exam and X-rays.

Dr. Darj collected over $1000 worth of food, and donated it together with all the money from the dental cleaning special to El Pasoans Fighting Hunger to help people in need.

Due to the great response, the El Paso dentist decided to extend the Food Drive and is accepting food donations until Jan 31st, 2015.

Dr Darj explained, “It is a growing problem. Food demands at the local food pantries have increased and yet food donations have decreased. Food Banks need help all year round I we all can help them together.”

Among the hungry in America is 47 million children. This is very alarming,” said Dr Darj, a dentist in El Paso.

Dr Darj is encouraging her patients to bring non-perishable food donations, and offering the dental cleaning, exam and x-rays for only $39. And all of the $39 and food will go to the local food bank: El Pasoans Fighting Hunger.

When asked why she would give such a discount and donate all the proceeds, Dr Darj said, “Local communities are strong not because of money but because of the free spirit of helping one’s neighbors. In a troubled economy that affects many Americans, if I could get the public to help the hungry families while getting their basic dental work done, why not?

I would like to thank everyone that participated and I to ask everyone who now knows about our program to spread the word to their friends and neighbors. The more people know about this effort, the more needy families can receive aid, El Paso TX dentist Dr. Darj concluded.

El Paso dentist, Dr. Mehrnoosh Darj is raising donations for a local food pantry and helping people improve their dental health by lowering their dental bill.

A report from The New York Times revealed the trend of Americans delaying health treatments even if they are insured. The reason behind this is an economic reason: many insured could not afford the co-payments

Dr. Darj who is a practicing dentist in the El Paso area knows that this delay of treatment usually leads to bigger health problems. Delayed dental care can easily lead to gum diseases which then could cause weakened immune problems, leading to heart, lung and liver diseases. Even pregnant mothers could have still-born or pre-mature babies due to gum diseases.

At the same time, how could a person see a dentist if he or she could not even afford three square meals a day?

Dr Darj explained, “It is a growing problem. Food demands at the local food pantries have increased and yet food donations have decreased.”

“Among the hungry in America are 16 million children. This is very alarming.” said Dr Darj, dentist El Paso.

With some long thinking, she came out with an idea to help in both areas: help Americans with dental care and also assist the local food pantries.

In a troubled economy that affects many Americans, if I could get the public to help the hungry families while getting their basic dental work done, why not?”

The campaign spearheaded by Dr. Darj to benefit people in need of dental care as well as providing more donations to the local food bank will end on February 10, 2015.

“I would like to ask everyone who now knows about our program to spread the word to their friends and neighbors. The more people know about this effort, the more needy families can receive aid.” El Paso TX dentist Dr. Darj concluded.
